How do I Update a contact's old email address with a new address?
Here's what to do when updating an email address that doesn't yet exist in HubSpot:
- A contact in HubSpot can have several email addresses. However, it can only have 1 primary address (the address we will send emails to).
- From the contact, click to edit the email address in the left panel and then click Add email address. Once you've typed in the email address click Actions to the right of the address and click Make Primary.
If you receive a 'this email address already exists' you will need to locate the contact for that email.
- In the Search bar, type in the email address
- Click on the contact name to pull it up
- On the contact page, in the left panel click Actions then Merge
- Select the contact you want to merge (search by the name or email address)
- You will see: The resulting contact record will use the primary email "test@ftrintel.com"
- Click Merge.
This contact will track activity for both email addresses but will only send emails to "test@ftrintel.com". For example, Test signs up for a webinar using test@gmail.com email and downloads a SOF TODAY using test@ftrintel.com email. Both the webinar registration and the SOF TODAY download will show up correctly in the activity feed.
